ASX Commentary

Weekly Trend: Down
Daily Trend: Down
Daily Momentum: ___ Flat

Good gains were made on our market today on the open and throughout the afternoon. On the close, the All Ordinaries and XJO were up 1.2 and 1.2% respectively. Volume was average. All sectors finished in the black, the biggest gainers being the Metals/Mining and Materials sectors. Also strong were Energy and Gold after rises in metals and oil overnight. Figures released from China indicated that inflation eased a little there in April which may have added to the bullishness on mining stocks. Of course, we’d like to see some traction come from this move, but there is plenty of resistance to penetrate on the way up. Overnight the Dow Jones had further gains, up just over 75 points or 0.6% and the Nasdaq put on 1%.
