ASX Commentary

Weekly Trend: Down
Daily Trend: Down
Daily Momentum: ___ Flat

A very subdued, yet choppy session on our market today to end the month and quarter. The XJO traded in positive territory all morning and in the negative for most of the afternoon, ending the day flat. It did manage to gain 105.44 points for the week, a rise of 2.7%, whilst for the quarter it was a different story – down just under 600 points or 13% lower. Sectors were mixed as you would expect on a day such as today, the erratic Energy sector the best performer, up 1.2%. US markets posted gains overnight, the Dow Jones +1.3%, but closed well off the session’s highs to end a very choppy trading day. The major index futures are down between half and one percent at the time of writing in night trading. September has certainly been a trying month for end of day traders – three days being the longest trend within the month on the ASX – so we can only look forward to a much improved October. Have a great weekend.
